OSDP UHF long range reader or the UHF readers with OSDP communication protocol are now becoming a widely accepted range of readers for parking entrance management and other similar projects. The generic UHF readers are either using wiegand de facto protocol or TCP/IP where the length of communication is limited to a few meters with halt at 100 meters. OSDP is the only choice for long distance of communication between controller & the device that can be as long as 1200 meters. Yes, nearly a Kilometer and more.
Generally the parking barriers are located at the farther distance from the control station so the system integrators are left with two choices. Either to install an access control panel inside the barrier or use the access control panel at the remote location and in both cases the cabling is a must and should be issued with a standard limit. Using OSDP communication protocol, it is very easy to use a multi-channel access controller at location nearly 1200 meters and connect all UHF & standard Mifare & EM readers to the same, thereby eliminating the cost of using one controller at one location.
OSDP UHF long range reader family helps in elimination of all technical issues related to distances from controllers, hence is a future proof device. Assuming a two door OSDP access control panel (e.g. NU OSDP 24D ) supports four OSDP readers or four wiegand readers or the combination or OSDP & Standard wiegand readers, this way there is the freedom to use OSDP Long range reader for entry & exit of the parking zone in combination with two standard Wiegand readers making the area more secure & affordable installation
TYPE | OSDP CONTROLLER | OSDP UHF LONG RANGE READERS | WIEGAND READERS |
UNITS | 4 Readers | 2 x UHF readers | 2 x 13.56/125KHz readers |
: Parking entry | : Office entrance | ||
: Parking exit | : Office exit |
As mentioned in table 1 above, two OSDP UHF readers are employed at entrance & exit of parking zone and connected to the OSDP port of the controller panel at the distance of 1200 meter or less while as two standard wiegand readers are connected to the standard wiegand ports of the controller hence reducing the communication and transmission issue. This way a hybrid card will work for the setup easily from parking entry to office entry to office exit to parking exit. A perfect security ecosystem.
Nundnet, an entry & exit engineering from Nundlab, Inc. OSDP access controls & readers, are under continous development & products were released as Version 1.0 of Nundnet OSDP series on February 17, 2021.
