Turnstiles are security gates & are integrated with access control panels to keep every entry and exit recorded. The entry can be made possible using any suitable method as per management policy be it the proximity card, face, bar code or NFC etc. In the modern age, the transport owners grant entry to passengers using the ticket issued at vending machines with no check and balance by the bus driver, as most of the buses are free from ticket checkers, so it becomes important to use turnstiles for buses.
The tickets are validated at the entrance of the bus using the ticket validation unit but a passenger without ticket can also enter the bus in case no check is maintained. So it is concluded that public transport buses suffer losses because of ticket-less passengers etc.
The turnstile is a widely used access control in buses to halt entry of people without valid tickets and passes. The steps are very simple. The ticket validation device is integrated with the specially designed turnstile units inside the bus. As the ticket holder enters the bus, the ticket validation device sends the pulse to open the turnstile once the ticket is validated and vice versa.
Such types of turnstiles are provided with specific access controls that can work with WiFi devices and supported by 4G etc. so that data can be downloaded at the designated locations as and when needed.
The presence of active turnstiles in the buses helps in many ways; few of them are as mentioned below
- Passenger counting from time to time and from one place to other
- Halting the entry of ticket-less passengers in the bus
- Complete access control
- Prevention of tailgating at every point of time
The turnstiles for buses are generally IP54 rated and are designed to be heavy duty considering the regular and unstoppable operation of the motor.
